Frequently Asked Question

How much current does the SLR5500 draw?
Last Updated 6 years ago

A query was raised by a customer who wanted to know how much power they could save if they ran their repeater at 25W instead of 50W. They were running the repeater entirely off solar power and were concerned about consumption.

We set up an SLR5500 and did some tests. Tests were done at 155MHz, in analog and digital mode. Results in analog and digital were identical. We set our DC input voltage at a stable 13.8V and measured RF Power Output, DC Input Current, DC Input Power.

Here’s the results:

Output (W)
Consumption (W)

So from this, you can see that 25W output will consume around 5.25A. Obviously, if the DC input voltage (your battery) is lower than 13.8V then the repeater will draw slightly more current etc. but by dropping the output power you’ll definitely drop the consumption quite a lot.
